WEBINAR
Data & Infrastructure: The Foundation of AI
SHORT DESCRIPTION
This webinar will bring together African and international experts to explore how data and digital infrastructure form the essential foundation for viable and sovereign artificial intelligence in Africa.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Data—volume, quality, typology—and infrastructure—networks, data centers, cloud platforms, edge computing—are now at the heart of any artificial intelligence deployment. On the African continent, the challenge is considerable: ensuring reliable access to relevant data, building robust infrastructure, and preventing AI from continuing to rely solely on imported architectures or standards.
Countries such as Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, and Morocco are already making progress in implementing data policies, sovereign cloud computing, and high-speed networks. However, challenges remain: data fragmentation, lack of harmonized governance, insufficient investment, and dependence on data flows and infrastructure that are mainly based abroad.
This webinar aims to:
highlight African initiatives in infrastructure and data for AI;
analyze the obstacles and levers so that these technological foundations become assets for local, inclusive, and sustainable AI;
promote dialogue between public decision-makers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors on infrastructure models suited to African realities.
OBJECTIVES
- Provide a clear and up-to-date overview of the state of AI data and infrastructure in Africa.
- Present concrete examples of infrastructure and data platforms that have already been deployed or are in the planning stages.
- Identify best practices for data collection, management, and utilization in an African context.
- Discuss standards, data sovereignty and infrastructure, and the role of public-private partnerships.
- Encourage exchange and collaboration around an African AI ecosystem based on sustainable technological foundations.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This webinar is intended for:
- Researchers and academics interested in the fields of AI, data, and digital infrastructure.
- Startups and entrepreneurs developing AI or data science solutions.
- Investors and financial institutions interested in emerging technologies.
- Public decision-makers and technology policy makers.
- Students, engineers, and young professionals passionate about the continent's digital challenges.
